  • how children learn
  • good care and education early childhood programs produce good results in the social, emotional and cognitive growth of children
  • mediocre programs do not produce good results and in some cases do harm
  • good programs benefit all children (those who are economically disadvantaged more) and result in better reading, math and citizenship skills
  • teacher qualifications are important; children learn through their relationships and tenure with all these relationships to form
  • structure: class size and ratio are important
  • parent engagement matters
