History

The Hartford Area Child Care Collaborative (Collaborative), is an initiative of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and a United Way Partner agency. The Collaborative is committed to promoting and supporting high-quality child care. Since 1987, the Collaborative has been actively facilitating creative dialogue and solutions to child care problems in the Hartford area. The Collaborative has successfully formed public/private partnerships among business, government, funding organizations, local and statewide groups involved in child care, policy makers, advocates, consumers, and educators. The interaction of these groups creates a unique network for shared information, research, and focused work on initiatives. The Collaborative:

  • provides a forum for networking with a broad range of individuals and organizations at local, state and national levels
  • provides technical assistance, a child care resource library, and links to additional supports
  • develops and maintains statistical information on numerous aspects of child care
  • works to increase universal access to quality programs
  • educates the public about the importance of high-quality child care
  • enhances planning and coordination of child care services.

High-quality early childhood experiences promote successful development and help children to seek out and open the doors of discovery - to become successful in school and successful in life.
